Think Geek

Think Geek
1.2.- 3.- 4.- 5.- 6. - 7.8.
One thing not many people know about me is that I love video games! I've built my own computer, own a lot of the gaming systems, beat Mario Bros on the Wii (Lol), ect. So I thought I would put together for you a set of my favorite "geeky" clothes and accessories. Most of these are pretty affordable, except for the Archie shoes (yikes!). My favorite is the Pac Man circle skirt because circle skirts are soooo flattering and this skirt is homemade (I love Etsy).

What's your favorite "Geeky" item?

Thrift Store Haul: Designer Finds!

I absolutely love thrifting! I know there is a lot of people out there who don't like the idea of buying someone's used stuff but its a great way to get a good deal on stuff! Why spend a ton of money on something when I can find a better deal?

1. Express Genuine Leather Hobo Bag

I found this genuine leather purse at a thrift store for only $4.99! Such a steal! What I love the most about it is that it was hardly used, the inside was very clean. It has very nice polka dot lining, a magnetic buckle strap, and four silver studs on the bottom of the purse.

2.  Ralph Lauren Sweater

I got this lovely black Ralph Lauren 100% cotton sweater for only .99! I really like it because it fits big because it's a large so I gives the over sized look. The arms are three quarter sleeves. I plan on paring this with some jeggings and a white undershirt.

3. Dooney and Bourke All-Weather Leather Crossbody

So I was very excited when I first saw this purse cause come on Dooney and Bourke! I really wished I would have looked at it more before I bought it because upon further inspection I'm pretty sure it is a fake. I only spent $4.99 on it though and I still will probably use it because it looks nice and has great structure. Inside the front flap it has two pockets, one zipper pocket, and a card holder. The back part comes unsnapped and it has another zipper pocket, multiple card pockets, and some pencil holders. The nice part about thrifting is even though you might not get exactly what you wanted, you didn't much to get it. This purse has a very nice color and I will most likely get some use out of it

What are your favorite thrifting finds?

Thank you so much for reading!

Thrift Store Book Haul

For those of you that don't know me, I love reading! Whenever I have any sort of free time you will usually find me nose deep in a new book. That's why I was super excited when I found out that my local goodwill was having a 50% off of books and media sale! I didn't have much time to go through the massive amount of books they had (only about 20 minutes). But I picked out ones that I had heard were good and ones that just looked appealing. The great thing about the books I grabbed is that they were in great condition! The only thing remotely wrong with them is that some of books pages were yellowed with age. I bought these books for a dollar each spending fourteen dollars (it would have cost around $198 if I bought them all new)  before sales tax.

The books I got:

Description on back: In 1942, Will Truesdale, an Englishman newly arrived in Hong Kong, falls passionately in love with Trudy Liang, a beautiful Eurasian socialite. But their affair is threatened by the invasion of the Japanese as World War II overwhelms their lives.
Ten years later, Charlie Pendleton comes to Hong Kong and is hired by the wealthy Chen family as their daughter's piano teacher. Seduced by the colony's heady social life, she soon begins an affair...only to discover that her lover is hiding a devastating past. As the threads of this spellbinding novel intertwine, impossible choices emerge - between love and safety, courage and survival, the present, and, above all, the past.

Description on back: As a science journalist with a regular column in Scientific American, Jeremy Marsh specializes in debunking the supernatural and has a real nose for the strange and unusual. A born skeptic, he travels to the small town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, determined to find the real cause behind the ghostly apparitions that appear in the town cemetery. What he doesn't plan on, however, is meeting and falling hopelessly in love with Lexie Darnell, granddaughter of the town psychic. Now, if the young lovers are to have any kind of future at all, Jeremy must make a difficult choice: return to the life he knows, or do something he could never do before - take a giant leap of faith.

Description on back: The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald's third book, stands at the supreme achievement of his career. This exemplary novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted "gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession," it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.
The Great Gatsby is one of the great classics of twentieth-century literature.

Description on back: Meet Isabel "Izzy" Spellman, private investigator. This twenty-eight-year-old may have a checkered past littered with romantic mistakes, excessive drinking, and creative vandalism; she may be addicted to Get Smart reruns and prefer entering homes through windows rather than doors - but the upshot is she's good at her job as a licensed private investigator with her family's firm, Spellman Investigations. Invading people's privacy comes naturally to Izzy. In fact, it comes naturally to all the Spellmans. If only they could leave their work at the office. To be a Spellman is to snoop on a Spellman; tail a Spellman; dig up dirt on, blackmail, and wiretap a Spellman.
Part Nancy Drew, part Dirty Harry, Izzy walks an indistinguishable line between Spellman family member and Spellman employee. Duties include: completing assignments from the bosses, aka Mom and Dad (preferably without scrutiny); appeasing her chronically perfect lawyer brother (often under duress); setting an example for her fourteen-year-old sister, Rae (who's become addicted to "recreational surveillance"); and tracking down her uncle (who randomly disappears on benders dubbed "Lost Weekends"). But when Izzy's parents hire Rae to follow her (for the purpose of ascertaining the identity of Izzy's new boyfriend), Izzy snaps and decides that the only way she will ever be normal is if she gets out of the family business. But there's a hitch: she must take one last job before they'll let her go - a fifteen-year-old, ice-cold missing person case. She accepts, only to experience a disappearance far closer to home, which becomes the most important case in her life.

Description on back: Fleeing Nazi Germany in 1936, the Schwarts immigrate to a small town in upstate New York. Here the father - a former high school teacher - is demeaned by the only job he can get: gravedigger and cemetery caretaker. When local prejudice and the family's own emotional frailty give rise to an unthinkable tragedy, the gravedigger's daughter, Rebecca, heads out into America. Embarking upon an extraordinary odyssey of erotic risk and ingenious self-invention, she seeks renewal, redemption, and peace - on the road to a bittersweet and distinctly "American" triumph.

Addie Downs and Valerie Alder will be best friends forever. That's what Addie believes after Valerie moves across the street when they're both nine years old. But in the wake of a betrayal during their teenage years, Val is swept into the popular crowd, while mousy, sullen Addie becomes her school's scapegoat.
Flash- forward fifteen years. Valerie Alder has found a measure of fame and fortune working as the weathergirl at the local TV station. Addie Downs lives alone in her parents' house in their small hometown of pleasant Ridge, Illinois, caring for a troubled brother and trying to meet Prince Charming on the internet. She's just returned from Bad Date #6 when she opens her door to find her long-gone best friend standing there, a terrified look on her face and blood on the sleeve of her coat. "Something horrible has happened," Val tells Addie, "and you're the only one who can help."
Best Friends Forever is a grand, hilarious, edge-of-your-seat adventure; a story about betrayal and loyalty, family history and small-town secrets. It's about living through tragedy, finding love where you least expect it, and the ties that keep best friends together.

Description on back: A long hot summer... That's what Macy has to look forward to while her boyfriend, Jason, is away at Brain Camp. Days will be spent at a boring job in the library, evenings will be filled with vocabulary drills for the SATs, and spare time will be passed with her mother, the two of them sharing a silent grief at the traumatic loss of Macy's father.
But sometimes unexpected things can happen - things such as the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister's project of renovating the neglected beach house, awakening long-buried memories. These things such as meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an amazing artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl's world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to wonder, Is it really better to be safe than sorry?

Description on back: In Tana French's powerful debut thriller, three children leave their small Dublin neighborhood to play in the surrounding woods. Hours later, their mothers' calls go unanswered. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children, gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.
Twenty years later. Detective Rob Ryan - the found boy, who has kept his past a secret - and his partner Cassie Maddox investigate the murder of a twelve-year-old girl in the same woods. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him, and that of his own shadowy past.

Description on back: A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destinations is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food - and each other.

Description on back: In her early thirties, Elizabeth Gilbert had everything a modern American woman was supposed to want - husband, country home, successful career - but instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, she felt consumed by panic and confusion. This wise and rapturous book is the story of how she left behind all these outward marks of success, and of what she found in their place. Following a divorce and a crushing depression, Gilbert set out to examine three different aspects of her nature, set against the backdrop of three different cultures: pleasure in Italy, devotion in India, and on the Indonesian island of Bali, a balance between worldly enjoyment and divine transcendence.

Description on back: Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagues her since childhood. The product of preimplanation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate - a life and a role that she has never challenged... until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister - and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

Description on back: Fourteen-year-old Trixie Stone is in love for the first time. She's also the light of her father, Daniel's life - a straight-A student; a pretty, popular freshmen in high school; a girl who's always seen her father as a hero. That is, until her world is turned upside down with a single act of violence. Suddenly everything Trixie has believed about her family- and herself - seems to be a lie. Could the boyfriend who one made Trixie wild with happiness have been the one to end her childhood forever? She says that he is, and that all it takes to make Daniel, a seemingly mild-mannered comic book artist with a secret tumultuous past that he has hidden even from his family, venture to hell and back to protect his daughter.

Trends I'm Loving

Trends

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share the top three trends that I am absolutely in love with.

1. Suede Wedge Ankle Booties - I really love these boots! I feel like you can easily pair them with almost any outfit. Plus I like the fact that you can either dress them up or dress them down.  I also like the casual feel that the laces bring to these boots.

My favorite way to wear these is to pair them with leggings or jeggings with a loose fitting top. They can be dressed up with a skirt or you can wear these a cute pair of ankle denim and patterned socks

2. Chambray Shirt - I used to hate denim on denim outfits but as an influx of these denim on denim outfit pictures started coming up on my pinterest feed, I quickly feel in love with it.  I like these shirts because they are super comfy and casual while still giving off that polished look.

Tips: I would recommend pairing these with different color denim. i.e if you are wearing a dark pair of jeans wear a light chambray shirt. One solid denim color can make the outfit look extremely bland.

3. Statement Necklaces - These necklaces are very handy for me. I don't really accessorize that much so when I wear a statement necklace I don't have to add many accessories to the outfit because the necklace is the main accessory.

My favorite way to wear these is with a collared shirt because it shows off the necklace an hides the chain so all you see is the big part of the necklace. These necklaces can pretty much be worn with anything, just as long as you don't over-accessorize.

Pinterest Inspired Dollar Store DIY

I love doing crafts and Pinterest is the perfect place to get craft ideas! I was inspired to make this when I saw a picture on Pinterest of mason jars that were made into glittery candle holders. I live in an apartment that doesn't allow candles so I figured I can use this as a cute pencil holder. Of course living on a college budget I skipped the mason jars and decided to do an all dollar store DIY.
This is what inspired me
Supplies:
Glue
Glass Jar
Glitter
Paint Brushes
Tape (I didn't realize I was going to need these until after I started)

Also, when you go pick out your glass jar try and find some in fun shapes. I went for this rounded one because I thought it would make it look more interesting than just a regular cylinder shape.

The first thing your going to do is put a piece of tape around the glass jar to insure that you will get a strait line. You can also skip the tape step and try to create your own design
After start painting the glue on the glass jar. I decided to do both the inside and outside of the jar to get a better look.
Once you have some of it painted with glue, pour glitter on the spots before the glue dries. I would recommend doing this over an empty shoe box so you can keep all the glitter contained.
Keep repeating this process until you are satisfied with the outcome!
What it looked like before the tape came off
I hope you guys enjoyed this DIY!
